North America is one of the fastest-moving CargoWise markets in the world. Freight forwarding businesses across the region are scaling operations, expanding globally, rethinking how their platforms are architected, and making technology decisions that will shape their competitiveness for years to come.
Those decisions deserve senior leadership close to the market — someone who brings deep CargoWise expertise and genuine freight forwarding experience in the same conversation.
Troy Zavagno joins SFL Tech as Regional Director for North America.
Troy brings more than seventeen years inside the freight forwarding industry, with a career that has moved through export operations, business analysis, operational improvement, and into CargoWise solution architecture at enterprise scale. He has been the person inside a global freight forwarding business who owned the platform end to end — from selection and implementation through to workflow architecture, financial configuration, automation, integration design, and the governance required to scale a CargoWise environment from a small US operation to more than three hundred and fifty users globally.
It is a rare combination. Operators who understand the daily reality of moving freight do not always carry deep platform expertise. Platform specialists do not always understand why an operations team handles consolidations a certain way, or how a particular trade lane creates financial complexity that the system needs to reflect. Troy has spent nearly two decades building fluency in both, and that fluency now sits at the centre of SFL's North American client relationships.
Built Inside the Operation
Troy did not come to freight forwarding through a technology career. He came to technology through freight forwarding.
His early career was spent inside export operations — the daily pressure of shipments, documentation, carrier coordination, and the relentless pace of an industry that does not pause while systems are being improved. From there he moved into business analysis and operational improvement, where the lens widened: examining how processes were designed across teams and clients, identifying where manual effort was creating drag, and redesigning workflows to move high-value people off low-value tasks and bring measurable productivity gains across the business.
But what distinguished Troy's career was what happened when that operational depth met the platform.
When his organisation selected CargoWise as its core operating system, Troy was part of the evaluation alongside senior stakeholders across the business. He was identified as the company super user and primary trainer. He became the system administrator. And over time, he took on the role of solution architect — responsible for how the entire CargoWise environment was structured, governed, and scaled as the business grew internationally.
That architecture work was comprehensive. Organisation design and management within CargoWise. Financial setup and charge code utilisation. Workflow architecture and automation. System logic for every vendor and client integration. The systematic design for new business products as the company expanded its service offering. He built the hybrid teams — onshore staff and offshore consulting partners — required to deliver and sustain that work, and introduced the agile governance and IT reporting frameworks that connected every CargoWise project to ROI decision-making and measurable execution.
Every one of those decisions was grounded in something most solution architects do not carry: a detailed understanding of the freight forwarding operation the platform was serving. Troy was not designing in the abstract. He was designing for teams he had worked alongside, for pressures he had experienced firsthand, and for a business whose growth he was enabling from inside the architecture.
It is that combination — the operational instinct and the platform depth, developed together across nearly two decades — that defines the value Troy brings to SFL's clients.
What This Means for Our Clients
As Regional Director, Troy is the senior point of contact for SFL Tech across North America. Not a coordinator. Not a layer between you and the expertise. The person leading the relationship, shaping the engagement, and ensuring that what SFL delivers is connected to where your business is actually headed. What this means for you:
- Architecture grounded in operational reality. Every workflow, integration, and automation decision is approached from the perspective of the operation it serves. Troy does not separate how the business runs from how the platform is structured, because he has spent his career solving them as one problem.
- A perspective on scaling shaped by experience. Having taken a CargoWise environment from a small team to a global user base, Troy understands which structural decisions enable future growth and which quietly constrain it. That perspective informs how SFL scopes work and designs solutions across the region.
- Domain fluency that accelerates every engagement. Trade lanes, consolidation workflows, charge code structures, customs processes, branch operations, carrier relationships — Troy does not need a briefing on how your business works. He has lived inside this industry for nearly two decades.
- Senior leadership in your time zone, without layers. A direct relationship with someone who has the experience to engage at a strategic level and the platform depth to understand the detail underneath it.
SFL Tech's Growing Commitment to North America
North America has become one of the most important regions in SFL Tech's global trajectory. The conversations are getting deeper. The engagements are becoming more strategic. And the freight forwarding businesses trusting SFL with their CargoWise environments are asking for a partner that can grow with them.
Troy's appointment reflects how seriously SFL takes that. A regional director with seventeen years of freight forwarding experience and end-to-end CargoWise platform ownership, placed directly in the market where our clients need leadership they can reach, trust, and build with over time.
SFL Tech is built to be the partner that helps freight forwarding businesses get more from their technology — not through generic consulting, but through the kind of expertise that understands the operation and the platform as one connected challenge.
Troy strengthens that capability in North America. We are glad he is here.
Welcome to the team, Troy.
