What is the CargoWise certification programme?
It is a structured, three-level certification pathway run by WiseTech Global through WiseTech Academy. It validates individual competency with the CargoWise platform, from foundational navigation through to advanced system configuration, workflow design, and electronic messaging architecture.
The certification is globally recognised across the logistics industry, and with over 16,500 organisations running CargoWise worldwide, it has become one of the most practical credentials a logistics professional can hold. It tells employers, clients, and the broader market that the individual understands the platform at a verified depth, across a specific competency area, validated through examination.
What are the three certification levels?
The programme is sequential. Each level builds on the one before it, and each demands progressively deeper platform knowledge and operational experience.
CargoWise Certified Operator is the entry point, designed for professionals new to the platform or the logistics industry. It covers foundational concepts: bookings, freight task management, customs clearance processes, warehousing workflows, and core platform navigation. No prerequisites are required.
CargoWise Certified Specialist requires Operator certification and a minimum of six months working with CargoWise. This level moves into advanced functionality: CRM and tariff management, finance and accounting processes, and track and trace configuration. It is where platform competency shifts from knowing how to use the system to understanding how it connects across modules.
CargoWise Certified Professional is the highest individual certification. It requires both prior certifications, at least twelve months of platform experience, and demonstrated project involvement. The focus is workflow management, system configuration, and electronic messaging: the structural layer that determines how the platform performs across the operation.
What modules can the team certify in and how should they choose?
Certifications are available across the platform's core operational domains: Forwarding, Customs, Warehouse, Transport, and Carrier. Accounting is available at the Professional level.
Each domain maps to a specific area of the platform, and the exams test practical application within it. A Customs certification, for example, includes both generic platform knowledge and country specific regulatory requirements, reflecting the variation that customs operations face across jurisdictions. The certification path each person follows should align with where they spend their working day inside the platform.
Does certification cost anything and how is the training delivered?
No. All certification training is delivered through WiseTech Academy, which is included at no additional cost for CargoWise users. Under the Value Pack model, your organisation already has access to hundreds of hours of self-paced, role-based training covering every module on the platform.
The training is structured around learning pathways that match certification levels, so the study material maps directly to the exams. Everything is online and on-demand, which means the team can progress at their own pace without being pulled off the operations floor for classroom sessions.
This is one of the most underutilised inclusions in the Value Pack. The training infrastructure is already paid for. The question is whether the team is using it.
How long does it take to get certified?
The programme is self-paced, so the timeline depends on each person's existing platform experience and how much time they can dedicate alongside their operational responsibilities.
Operator certification can typically be completed in a matter of weeks for someone already working in the platform daily. Specialist requires deeper study across advanced modules, and Professional demands both study and demonstrated project experience, so those timelines stretch accordingly.
Exams can be retaken after a four-hour cooldown with unlimited attempts, and only the most recent score is recorded. If an exam appears across multiple competency areas, completing it once counts toward all of them.
Do certifications expire and what does recertification involve?
Yes. Certifications have an expiry period, and WiseTech Academy sends notifications three months before they lapse. Recertification only applies to the highest level held, so someone at Professional level does not need to separately recertify at Operator and Specialist.
The recertification requirement exists because the platform evolves continuously. WiseTech Global shipped over 1,500 product updates across 2024 and 2025 alone. A certification earned two years ago reflects a version of the platform that has gained significant new capability since, particularly across AI, automation, and integration. Staying current at the frontier of the platform's capability is where the operational value sits.
Why does team certification matter beyond the credential?
Because every AI tool, every automation workflow, and every productivity feature inside CargoWise operates on system data. The quality of that data, the structure of the workflows feeding it, and the consistency of how the platform is used across the team determine what the technology can actually do.
A team that understands the platform at depth enters data consistently. Configures workflows that fire correctly. Uses the modules as they were designed rather than building workarounds that bypass the system's logic. That consistency is what gives the AI document ingestion, the classification assistant, SARA, ComplianceWise, and the workflow engine the structured environment they need to perform.
Organisations with certified staff also receive priority access to CargoWise customer support, which materially affects resolution speed when issues arise during peak periods.
What is the CargoWise Service Partner programme?
Separate from individual certification, WiseTech Global accredits organisations as CargoWise Service Partners. These are companies with the demonstrated capability to implement, configure, optimise, and support CargoWise environments on behalf of logistics businesses.
There are over 280 certified service partners globally. Each is assessed across seven competency areas that map to the operational core of the platform, and accredited at one of three tiers: Certified, Gold, or Platinum. The accreditation is earned through verified project delivery, not through training alone.
What are the seven competency areas for service partner accreditation?
The seven areas cover the full breadth of the platform:
- Forwarding — air, ocean, and road freight management including quote-to-cash workflows, carrier allocation, shipment tracking, and multi-leg consolidation
- Customs — declaration processing, tariff classification, compliance screening, government system integrations, and regulatory workflow configuration across jurisdictions
- Accounting & Finance — multi-currency billing, revenue recognition, AP/AR automation, tax compliance, intercompany accounting, and integration with external ERP platforms
- Workflow — milestone configuration, task assignment logic, exception escalation, SLA tracking, and operational reporting
- Integration — EDI, API, and middleware architecture connecting CargoWise to carriers, customers, government platforms, and enterprise systems
- Warehouse — inventory management, receipt and dispatch workflows, pick-pack-ship, storage billing, and warehouse automation configuration
- Global Rollouts — multi-country deployments across jurisdictions, regulatory environments, languages, currencies, and operating models
A partner's accreditation across these seven areas tells you exactly where their proven delivery depth sits and, equally important, where it ends.
What is the difference between Certified, Gold, and Platinum accreditation?
Each tier reflects a deeper level of proven delivery capability within a competency area.
Certified means the partner has demonstrated foundational competency and can deliver standard implementations within that module. Gold reflects more advanced capability, typically across more complex, multi-module environments. Platinum represents the highest tier of proven delivery depth, demonstrated through complex projects, enterprise-scale environments, and sustained delivery quality over time.
The distinction matters because the platform itself is deep enough that surface-level partner capability produces surface-level results. A partner certified in Forwarding and Customs can get you live on those modules. A partner holding Platinum across all seven can architect and deliver an entire operating model at the depth the platform was designed to support.
How do team certification and partner accreditation work together?
They operate on the same principle at different scales.
Team certification determines how well your people use the platform day to day. Partner accreditation determines how well the platform was built, configured, and architected in the first place. Both matter. A well-certified team working inside a shallow configuration will hit the ceiling of that configuration. A deeply configured environment operated by a team that does not understand it will underperform for different reasons.
The strongest outcomes come from depth at both levels: a service partner with the accreditation to build the environment properly, and a team with the certification to operate it at the level it was designed for.
How does SFL Tech support certification and platform adoption?
SFL Tech holds All-Platinum accreditation across all seven competency areas and has maintained it continuously since 2017. With 60+ CargoWise Certified Professionals delivering across 50+ countries, SFL Tech's own team operates at the certification depth it advises clients to build toward.
Training and adoption are embedded in SFL Tech's delivery methodology. The Enable phase of the 5D framework (Discover, Define, Design, Enable, Stabilise) is designed around how each role's daily work changes inside the platform, grounded in the specific configuration built for that operation rather than generic platform walkthroughs.
The certification programme gives your team the platform knowledge. The right service partner gives them the environment where that knowledge translates into commercial performance.
